# Weekend reading: A test of the Musk Starship prototype ended with an explosion on landing
*The starship will be 120 meters tall*
The testing of a prototype of SpaceX's Starship rocket ended with an explosion during landing in Boca Chica, Texas. According to Elon Musk, the pressure in the rocket's tank during landing was low, so the rocket landed at high speed.
December 10, 2020
As Musk explained, despite the unfortunate end, they were given all the necessary information during the mission, so he described the test as successful. The goal of this prototype test was to reach a height of 12500 meters, with the rocket being powered for the first time by the newly developed SpaceX Raptor engines. As reported by Reuters, it is not yet known whether the rocket has reached the said height.
The test of the new prototype of the SpaceX rocket was scheduled for Tuesday, but it was canceled only 1.3 seconds before launch due to engine problems.
SpaceX is mass-producing prototypes of Starship, the goal was for one of them to make a 20-kilometer jump this year, and if all goes well for the company, they are planning a 100-kilometer space leap. The entire Starship will be 120.09 meters in size. NASA has earmarked $135 million for its development, and has also financially supported the plans of Musk's rivals, Blue Origin, owned by Amazon owner Jeff Bezos, and Dynetics, owned by Leidos. The trio is working on contracts with NASA under the Artemis program, which envisions extensive human exploration of the Moon over the next decade. The goal of the Americans is to return man to the moon by 2024.
Musk's plan for Starship is to one day transport people and a hundred tons of cargo to the moon and Mars, wishing the rocket would be fully intended reusable.
